Busting the Myths on HSC Results and ATARs The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) and the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) have taken steps to debunk some pervasive myths surrounding the Higher School Certificate (HSC) results and Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).
However, their efforts may be hampered by a complex education system that often leaves students with unclear expectations. The ATAR's role as a measure of academic prowess is widely misunderstood.
According to UAC's research and statistics manager Dr Helen Tam, the confusion arises from the difference between the HSC and ATAR.
